The Health Foundation

If you are looking to get healthier in your life, trying to figure out where to start, how to start, the following article will be an important read for you.  It is always vital to remember, that anytime we are starting something new, or we are building something from scratch, there must be a foundation laid first and foremost.  Without the foundation, nothing will last.  Also it is good to keep in mind, it takes time to lay a foundation.  It takes time to create new habits, it certainly can take time to see results.  You didn’t get to where you are right now health wise overnight, you won’t get to where you want to be health wise over night!  Patience is essential!  The following is the foundation for better health, vitality, and longevity.  As you embark on this health adventure, you WILL become healthier, you WILL become stronger, both mentally and physically, and you WILL become a better version of yourself!  Healthier plus stronger equals better!

The Foundation:

  1. Sleep-  Sleep is the most valuable, powerful, and important foundational block for improved health.  Sleep is the bodies process of repairing, collecting, and building.  Without proper sleep, you will never become as healthy as you could or want to become.  Adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
  2. Nutrition-  We are what we eat!  Actionable tips:  Eliminate all soda, fast-food, and packaged foods from your eating within 14 days.  Begin to eat mostly whole foods.  Vegetables, fruits, Pasture-raised meats and poultry.  Drink mostly water throughout the day.  As best you can, focus on buying and eating Organic, local, humanely raised foods.  A good reminder, if it was grown from the ground or on a tree, and it was around when your grandparents were kids, it is probably o.k. to eat!
  3. Movement-  Adults need, at a minimum, 60 minutes of physical activity per day, 7 days a week, this is according to the U.S. Government, not me!  We were made to move!  It is intertwined within our DNA!  Find the movement that you enjoy, then, DO IT!  Whether it be walking, running, biking, swimming, weight training, yoga, whatever it is, just MOVE!  At lunch breaks during your work day, go for a walk.  Every 30-45 minutes of sitting, should be followed by 5-10 minutes of physical movement.
  4. Mindset-  You are what you think, you become what you think.  I believe what you think about, dwell on, and allow to settle into your mind, plays a HUGE role in our overall health.  We need to focus on the positive in life, eliminating the negative at all costs.  Find a quote or saying that encourages you.  Begin to daily write the quote and keep the quote or saying on repeat within your mind.  Also, begin to take 10 minutes each day to meditate.  To clear your mind of all the clutter, and only focus, again, on the positive.  Sit or stand still, allow everything to be released.

These four blocks are the foundation for health.  Obviously, there is so much more that could be unpacked for each, but this article is not meant to overwhelm, but to help guide you in the right direction!  We start with a little, then begin to build one action at a time, one day at a time!  Here we go!  And GOOD LUCK!
